Wake Surfing for Beginners
Getting Started
Published: July 10, 2007
You have arrived at Wake-Surfing.org, the site for wakesurfing tutorials. Our aim is to provide top-notch instruction for all levels of wake surfers and to help them improve their riding. Whether you are a first-timer or a seasoned veteran, we have some helpful tips for you.
One important thing to note before you start your wake surfing career is only wakesurf behind an inboard boat. You should never try to wakesurf behind an I/O (inboard/outboard) or outboard. It is extremely dangerous. Not only can it get you killed, but it could ruin the sport for the rest of us. The propellor on inboard boats makes them safe for wakesurfing. It is located far beneath the boat and would be nearly impossible to hit while surfing. Other types of boats have the propeller protruding out the back, which could chop up you or your board.
Now that that's out of the way, here's a brief overview of what Wake-Surfing.org has to offer.
For the virgin-surfers, you can learn all about how to get up on a surfboard, and how to keep your balance.
And after you pick up those very basic skills, you can read about how to get slack and how to wakesusrf without the handle. We can also show you how to get the perfect wake and how to drive a boat for wake surfing.
Our sister site, Wake-Boarding.org has some general articles about boating and water sports that you should check out. Including one about how to be safe on the water, how to find people to board with, how to handle your rope, how to be a better boater.
But that's not all! As you progress, you can learn much more about the sport of wake surfing such as how to carve up and down the wake and how to spin.
Within no time you'll be a pro wakesurfer. So jump right in! You can use the navigational menu on the left to browse through all of our articles, but if it's your first time, you should probably read the article about getting up next.
